You know what's a lot of bullets?
450 million bullets is.
That's how many .40 caliber hydra-shok technology hollow point bullets Alliant Techsystems (ATK) is set to deliver to the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customers Enforcement over the next 5 years.
You're probably thinking that's a lot of bullets for DHS and ICE, which are both engaged in purely internal law enforcement issues, and aren't engaged in a global conflict. It's nearly 20 bullets for every combat casualty of World War II from both sides. It's enough to put 10,000 bullets in to every Taliban and Al-Qaeda member killed in Afghanistan since 2001.
So, why do DHS and ICE need that many bullets? We hear a lot about the Mexican drug gangs near the border, and sure, they're dangerous, but the more guns and ammo we stockpile, the more likely we are to hand it over to them in a hair-brained sting operation.
We really have no idea why our federal law enforcement needs so many bullets, but we do know that the number happens to be just shy of the combined 460 million people in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
