A Tax Policy PSA

E-mail Print PDF

With the same cast of characters in Washington for the next term, we're likely to see many of the same arguments about tax policy come up again, so I'd like to go ahead and get this Public Service Announcement out there in hopes of maybe hearing a few less idiotic suggestions:

If you believe that we shouldn't raise taxes on people earning between $250,000 and $500,000 because that isn't as rich as you think it is, but you do believe we should raise taxes on people earning $50,000 because they somehow are more able to bear the burden than people in the top one half of one percent of earners, then please extend your arm straight out, ball your hand into a fist, bend your elbow to approximately 90 degrees, and punch yourself in the dick repeatedly until you come to your God damn senses.

We need the economy to grow, and you know what spurs growth? Middle class spending. You know what the middle class spends? Their money. You know what makes them spend more? Having more. And what does raising their taxes do? It gives them less, so they spend less, and businesses have less income, and the economy doesn't grow.

If that hasn't gotten through to you yet, just keep hitting yourself in the dick until it does.
