A National City teacher who was arrested last week on charges of child sex abuse has been re-arrested on additional felony charges related to possession of child pornography, according to the National City Police. Jacqueline Ma, 34, a teacher at Lincoln Acres Elementary, was originally arrested on March 7 on suspicion of child sex abuse after a parent expressed concern that their 13-year-old child may be involved in an inappropriate relationship with the teacher. Ma was released on bail on March 9 but was re-arrested on March 10 on 14 new charges of child pornography possession, sexual exploitation of a child, and preventing or dissuading a witness or victim.
The National City Police did not disclose any additional information regarding the case, citing an ongoing investigation and the fact that the victim is a minor. Superintendent Leighangela Brady issued a statement expressing the district’s appreciation for the law enforcement’s dedication to securing the facts and keeping the school district and community informed of their progress.
Ma was one of five 2022-2023 Teachers of the Year selected by Cox, but she is now on leave and will not return to the campus. She is due to appear in court on March 14.
